Fresh herbs, crisp alpine air, and the scent of summer — capture those summer feelings, taste the purity of nature, and preserve the essence of alpine herbs. What could be more beautiful than bottling these flavors into a homemade herbal salt and keeping a piece of summer all year round?

This easy DIY herbal salt not only brings summer flavors to your table, but also makes a thoughtful, natural gift straight from your kitchen — inspired by the simplicity and beauty of an Alpine nature retreat.

A Simple Guide to Aromatic Flavor from Nature

Fresh herbs, crisp alpine air, and the scent of summer — what could be more beautiful than capturing these flavors in a homemade herbal salt? With just a few ingredients, you can create your own herbal salt and bring a touch of nature straight into your kitchen.

Which Herbs Work Best?

  • Parsley
  • Chives
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Oregano
  • Lovage
  • Sage

Tip for true summer flavors: Use fresh, sun-ripened, and ideally organic herbs. They are rich in essential oils and deliver a more intense, aromatic taste — perfect for capturing those authentic summer feelings in your cooking.

Ingredients

  • 100 g coarse sea salt or natural rock salt
  • 1–2 handfuls of fresh herbs of your choice

Optional for extra summer flavor:

  • Lemon zest (for a fresh, citrusy note)
  • Garlic (for a rich, savory touch)
  • Edible flowers like lavender or calendula (for color and aroma)

Instructions
1. Wash & dry the herbs

Rinse the herbs thoroughly and dry them well — this is essential to ensure your herbal salt keeps well.

2. Chop the herbs

Finely chop or roughly cut the herbs, depending on your preferred texture.

3. Mix with salt

Combine the herbs and salt using a blender, mortar and pestle, or simply by hand until well blended.

4. Let it dry

Spread the mixture on a baking sheet or plate and allow it to air dry for several days in a warm place.

Alternatively, dry it in the oven at a low temperature (around 100°F / 40°C).

5. Store & enjoy

Transfer the dried herbal salt into an airtight glass jar and store in a cool, dry place.
