“My love for herbs began holding my grandmother’s hand…”
What started with childhood curiosity has grown into a lifelong passion.
Today, Christine Riedlsberger, your host at Gut Sonnberghof Nature Hotel, cultivates around 4,000 herb plants in more than 80 varieties across the hotel grounds. Many of these freshly harvested herbs find their way into our kitchen every day – or are transformed into teas, oils, soaps, bath essences, arnica balms, and herbal tonics. Wherever possible, we grow edible herbs ourselves – naturally, sustainably, and with deep expertise drawn from Christine’s years of hands-on experience and her training in Traditional European Herbal Medicine.
Once a year – in springtime – we dedicate an entire themed week to the world of herbs. Together with Christine Riedlsberger and regional experts, guests immerse themselves in the healing power and wisdom of alpine plants.
The program includes an introduction to herbal medicine and signature doctrine, a guided herb walk with a visit to the Hollersbach Herb Garden, and creative workshops focusing on natural décor and the crafting of pine resin salves. The week is complemented by aroma yoga with essential oils, a hands-on herbal first-aid kit for everyday life, and a special evening herb-inspired menu in our restaurant.
A week to learn, create, and reconnect – surrounded by the awakening beauty of spring at the Gut Sonnberghof Nature Hotel.
Winter at Its Purest. Ski Touring — a True Privilege.
When winter covers the Kitzbühel Alps and the Hohe Tauern National Park in sparkling white, a very special season begins – for those who love to leave their own tracks in the snow. Ski touring is more than a sport; it’s a deep connection with nature, a test of endurance, and pure happiness all at once.
The ascent demands strength and focus, while the view over the snow-covered mountains rewards you with serenity and perspective. And then comes the best part: the descent – freedom, flow, and that unique alpine feeling of being alive.
But ski touring also requires respect. Anyone venturing off groomed slopes into open terrain should be aware of the potential challenges of the high mountains. Avalanche risk, sudden weather changes, or navigation difficulties can quickly turn an adventure into a serious situation. Our recommendation: always head out with a certified local mountain or ski guide for a safe and unforgettable experience in the winter wonderland of the Kitzbühel Alps.

Route 2: Stuckkogel (from Bichlalm)
Distance: 1.2 km
Duration: approx. 1 hour
Elevation gain: 280 m
A short yet scenic tour following Ski Route 52. The groomed track, prepared by the snowcat, leads almost to the summit of Stuckkogel (1,880 m). Ideal for beginners – though in poor visibility above the treeline, it’s best to postpone the ascent.
Route 3: Gaisberg
Distance: 1.2 km
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours
Elevation gain: 420 m
A sporty climb that begins gently and gradually becomes steeper. The steepest section lies mid-route; with enough snow, it can be bypassed via a forest road. The upper third eases again, following the edge of the slope to the top station of the Gaisberg lift – a satisfying and scenic tour for experienced ski tourers.

A Time of Golden Light and Alpine Traditions
As summer fades and the sun softens its glow, the rhythm of life in the mountains begins to change. Days grow shorter, evenings longer — the kind of cozy nights made for curling up by the fire while the scent of wood smoke drifts through the crisp alpine air. The cows graze peacefully in the meadows below the hotel, embodying the calm of late summer as the first hints of autumn color the hillsides gold.
This is Bauernherbst – the traditional Alpine harvest season – a time when nature slows down and mountain life celebrates its roots. Throughout the region, guests can witness the colorful cattle drives that mark the end of summer in the high pastures. Adorned with flowers, ribbons, and their finest bells, the cows make their proud journey back to the valley — their soft chimes filling the air with a sense of homecoming.
Across the Pinzgau, farmers’ markets come alive with local flavors: homemade cheeses, herbal syrups, preserves, and regional delicacies crafted with care over the summer months. It’s a season that invites you to pause, savor, and reconnect — with nature, with tradition, and with the gentle pace of alpine life.
