Our Organic Farm
"This is Where I come from -
This is Where I Belong"
Our farm is like something out of a storybook – set on a sunny hill, surrounded by meadows, forest, and our own natural spring. The original farmhouse and barn still stand today. They are the heart of the Sonnberghof.
Our farm has always been organic. Today, we are also proudly certified by Bio Austria. Organic farms work without chemical-synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, relying instead on crop rotation, natural pest control, and closed ecological cycles – with regional feed and fertilizer produced right here on the farm.
Animal welfare is our top priority: humane husbandry, plenty of outdoor space, and GMO-free organic feed are a matter of course for us.
This sustainable way of farming protects the soil, water, and climate while supporting biodiversity in our local cultural landscape.
We choose to live with deep respect for nature and all the gifts it shares with us.
Hotel & Organic Farming - A Trur Symbiosis
Tourism and agriculture have always been inseparably linked in the Alpine region. Without the small, often family-run farms, our cultural landscape would not exist in this form – and without this landscape, there would be no sustainable tourism as we know and cherish it.
At the Sonnberghof estate, tourism is an important driving force. It has enabled investments, fresh ideas, and the opportunity to realize animal welfare and modern organic farming – from our new barn to daily hands-on care.
Our host Franz still milks the cows himself, knows each one by name, and looks after their well-being with heart and dedication.
Much of the leisure activity in the Alps takes place on agricultural land – ski slopes, hiking trails, mountain pastures. Without the care of our farmers, these areas would quickly become overgrown. Through grazing and manual maintenance, they remain open and vibrant.
Many of the foods we serve at the hotel come directly from our own organic farm – without transport routes, with true local origin, and with the comforting knowledge that our animals are genuinely well cared for.
Being able to serve our guests specialties made in-house is a true gift for us.
Locally Crafted Meats - Hörbiger Jakob, Mittersill
All of our fresh and cured meats come entirely from the region.
The animals are born and raised here and spend their summers grazing on the lush alpine pastures of the Hohe Tauern National Park – a promise of both quality and respect for nature.
Freshly Pressed Apple Juice from Bramberg
In the nearby village of Bramberg, the local fruit and garden cooperative runs a modern press where we take our harvest. We return with pure organic apple juice – vibrant, refreshing, and full of natural flavor. Whether enjoyed straight or mixed with water, it’s the perfect thirst quencher after a day in the mountains.
